Live Streaming Each Tatami

Last updated October 2026  ·  6 min read

Live Studio is a page in the browser that streams one tatami. It takes the camera on that mat, paints the mat's live scoreboard over it, and sends one stream to YouTube, Facebook and Twitch. You don't need OBS or any other streaming software.

The picture at the top of the Live Studio page is exactly what viewers see. The controls under it are never part of the stream.

What you need per mat

  • A laptop with a browser next to the mat. It can be the same laptop that runs the scoreboard, in its own window.
  • A camera the laptop can see, such as a USB webcam pointed at the mat.
  • Internet with enough upload for the quality you pick.
  • A stream key per platform for that mat. Use a different key for each mat.

The Quality menu offers three settings:

QualityWhen to use it
720p, 2.5 MbpsWeak venue Wi-Fi.
1080p, 4.5 MbpsThe standard setting (selected by default).
1080p, 6.8 MbpsA showcase mat with strong internet.

Director setup

Set up every mat from one computer, so operators never see or type a key.

  • 1
Open Live Stream In the Tournament Manager, click Live Stream in the menu. Every mat you set up under Mats has its own row.
  • 2
Paste each mat's stream keys Each row has a field for YouTube, Facebook and Twitch. Keys come from YouTube Studio (Go live, then Stream), Facebook Live Producer and the Twitch dashboard. Keys are stored encrypted. Afterwards only the last 4 characters are shown. Paste a new key to replace one, or click Remove.
  • 3
Give each operator the mat Operators need the Scoreboard Operator role (or a role with the operate scoreboard permission) and their mat. See Creating and assigning staff roles.

Each row also has an Open Live Studio link that opens that mat's studio in a new tab.

Going live from a mat

  • 1
Open the studio Go to taikaiapp.com/studio.html and sign in. You see only the mats you are allowed to operate. If you have exactly one mat, it opens straight away. A mat with a match in progress shows a red LIVE tag with the division name, so you can be sure you picked the right event.
  • 2
Pick the camera and microphone Choose the camera under Camera. The picture appears on the page. See the next section for the microphone.
  • 3
Check the platforms Platforms the director set up show Set by the director with the last 4 characters of the key, and they are switched on. Switch off any platform you don't want. You can also paste a key yourself; it is remembered on this laptop for this mat.
  • 4
Click GO LIVE The status pill in the top corner changes when the stream is on air. Click STOP to end it. One stream goes to every platform that is switched on.

Camera and microphone

When you pick a camera, the Microphone menu selects that webcam's own microphone, because it hears the mat it films. Cheap webcams often name their mic differently from the camera; the studio matches them by their USB id. If the webcam has no mic, the laptop's built-in mic is chosen. You can change it at any time:

  • Venue audio (shared mic): the mat streams the sound of one shared microphone instead of this laptop's. See Venue audio.
  • No microphone (silent): the stream has no sound.

Microphone blocked? If the browser has blocked the microphone for the site, the studio shows an orange warning and the mat streams silence. Click the icon left of the address bar, set Microphone to Allow, then reload the page.

Under Picture there are two options. They change only the stream, never the TV or the operator's board:

  • Flip camera (mirror): use it when the camera sends a mirrored picture and text reads backwards. It is remembered for that camera on this mat.
  • Swap AKA/AO sides: use it when AKA stands on the right of the picture, so the score bar matches what viewers see.

Staying on air

  • Other windows are fine. The studio keeps broadcasting when other windows cover it. If an orange warning says the window is hidden, give the Live Studio its own window instead of a background tab.
  • Dropped connections reconnect. If the connection to the streaming server drops, the status shows RECONNECTING and the studio retries on its own. If it keeps failing, it tells you to check the venue internet. Click STOP to give up.
  • Updates wait. A new version of the app never reloads the Live Studio by itself, so an update never cuts the broadcast.

Venue audio

Laptop microphones next to the scoring table pick up the table's conversations. Venue audio fixes that: one microphone on a stand is the sound of every mat's stream.

  • 1
Open Venue audio On the studio's mat list, click the Venue audio link under the tournament's mats. Use a computer with the microphone or audio interface plugged in. The director, staff and scoreboard operators of the tournament can run it.
  • 2
Set the level Pick the Microphone / interface and the Input, then adjust Volume. Keep the meter in the green, touching yellow on the loudest moments.
  • 3
Click START Keep this tab open. It keeps working behind other windows and tabs.
  • 4
Choose it on each mat In each mat's Live Studio, set Microphone to Venue audio (shared mic). A line under the controls confirms when the venue mic is on the air. Until it is, that mat streams silence.

The Venue audio page lists the Mats on the air: LIVE · venue audio for mats using the shared mic and LIVE · own mic for mats still using their own.

On the Live Stream page, each mat has an optional Public watch link: paste the YouTube or Facebook address of that mat's broadcast. On a tournament with several days, each mat gets one link per day, and the public page shows that day's link.

Tick Show a "Live" tab on the public site with the watch links to add a Live tab to your tournament page, where visitors watch each mat inside the page.

The all-mats screen

The All-mats screen button (on the Live Stream and Scoreboards pages) opens every mat at once, for a venue TV or the director's own screen. It has two views:

  • Scores: each tile is that mat's own TV board, scaled down.
  • Video: each tile plays that mat's public watch link. A mat without a link shows its board.

Each tile shows the mat's status, such as Between matches or Mat closed. Click a mat to show it alone and click again to go back. Keyboard shortcuts: S and V switch views, 1 to 9 show one mat, Esc or 0 go back to all mats, and F toggles full screen.

Next: what the stream shows between matches, and how to add sponsors, is in Stream graphics and sponsor breaks.
