Certificates

Last updated October 2026  ·  5 min read

Taikai App fills your own certificate design with each competitor's name, place, division and dojo. You can print medal certificates division by division at the awards table, or download one PDF with a certificate for every registered competitor: medalists get one per medal, and everyone else gets a participation certificate.

Setting up the template

Everything starts from a background image: your certificate design with blank space for the text.

  • 1
Open Settings → Certificates In the Tournament Manager, open Settings and click Certificates.
  • 2
Upload the design Under Upload Certificate Template (Image), choose your image, then click Save Template. The image appears with the text fields on top.
  • 3
Place the text Drag each text into place. Click a text to change its size, color or alignment. Use the pills above the image to add or remove fields. For exact numbers, open Advanced: numeric positions.
  • 4
Check it with sample data Click Preview with Sample Data to see a filled-in certificate.
  • 5
Save it to the server Click Sync to Server for the image and Save Config to Server for the text positions. The PDFs described below are built on the server, so they only use what you saved there.

Merge tags

TagWhat it prints
{{name}}The competitor's name.
{{place}}The placement, for example 1st Place. On a participation certificate, the participation text.
{{division}}The division, for example Kumite Male Seniors -75kg. On a participation certificate, the events the competitor entered.
{{tournament}}The tournament name.
{{date}}The tournament date.
{{club}}The competitor's dojo, for example Tiger Dojo.

Printing at the awards table

On the Awards & Results page (Results in the menu), each division card has a Print Certificates button for that division's medalists. At the bottom of the page, the Certificates panel has Generate All Certificates and Download All Certificates (PDF), which builds one PDF from your published results.

Director only: the server-built PDFs (Download All Certificates (PDF) here and Download all below) are available to the tournament director.

A certificate for every competitor

The Send to instructors panel at the bottom of Settings → Certificates builds a certificate for every registered competitor, not only the medalists:

  • Medalists get one certificate per 1st, 2nd or 3rd place, with the division.
  • Everyone else gets a participation certificate that lists their events.
  • Team results are not certified per medal. Team members get their participation certificate.

Set these options first, then click Save:

SettingWhat it does
Certificate languageEnglish, Spanish or French, for the place words (1st Place) and the default texts.
Date textThe date as you want it printed, for example November 7–8, 2026. Leave it empty to use the tournament date.
Participation textWhat {{place}} says on participation certificates. Leave it empty for "Participation".

Then click Download all. You get one PDF with every competitor's certificate, ready to print or share. The button shows how many competitors it covers.

Sending certificates to coaches

When results are published, click Send to instructors now. You see how many instructors get an email and how many competitors they cover, then confirm with Yes, send. To send later on its own, set Send automatically on to a date and time and click Save. If more coaches join afterwards, Email remaining instructors reaches only the ones who haven't had it.

Each email links the coach to their Taikai App account. There, a Your students' certificates card for your tournament has a Download certificates button: one PDF with a certificate for every competitor they registered or coach. Parents see the same card for their own children. Before you send, coaches don't see anything.

Publish results first. Medals come from published results. A competitor whose division isn't published yet gets a participation certificate. Placements are matched by event and name, so check that published names match the registrations.

Tips

  • Leave room in your design for long names and long division names. The {{division}} line on a participation certificate can list several events.
  • Download the full PDF once after the last division is published, and spot-check a few pages before sharing it.
  • Certificates show the competitor's full name. They are private documents for the competitor and their dojo, not a public page.
