Offline Mat Mode
Venue internet drops. Offline mat mode keeps a mat running when it does: the operator keeps scoring, the bracket keeps advancing, the mat's TV keeps showing the match, and every result is sent to the server as soon as the connection is back. Nothing needs to be switched on. It works on any operator laptop that opens a mat while online.
The setup it is built for
- One operator laptop per mat.
- The mat's TV as a second window of the same browser, plugged in by HDMI. Press TV in the board header to open it (see Projector and TV display setup). Because the board and the TV talk to each other inside the laptop, the TV stays linked with the network down.
A TV driven by a separate computer, the live stream, and anything else that needs the server will pause while the internet is out.
Preparing a mat
When the operator opens a mat, the laptop downloads that mat's day in the background: the schedule in order, every bracket on the mat, the competitors with their photos, flags and dojos, the scoreboard settings, sponsor media and the event language. The app itself is also stored, so a page reload works without internet.
The status chip in the board header shows where it stands. You can also press Prepare mat to download it again.
| Chip | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Preparing mat… | Downloading brackets, then photos and flags. |
| Ready offline ✓ | The mat's day is on this laptop, with the time of the last update. |
| Mat updated | Changes made elsewhere (for example a director's bracket edit) were downloaded. |
| Not prepared | This laptop has no copy of the mat. Open the mat while online. |
| Offline | No connection. The board is working from this laptop's copy, with the number of results saved on the device. |
| Synced ✓ | Everything saved offline has reached the server. |
The copy refreshes on its own: when brackets change, every few minutes, and when the connection returns. The bracket of the bout being fought is never swapped mid-match; its update waits until the match ends.
Prepare before the doors open. Open each mat on its own laptop while the venue internet is still good, and check for Ready offline ✓ before the first match.
What works offline
- Scoring, the clock, penalties and the winner on every scoreboard type.
- Advancing winners, loading the next match, finishing a division and the changeover screen.
- The mat's TV, when it is a second window of the operator laptop.
- Reloading the page: it reopens from the stored copy. If the board is closed while offline, an Open button at the bottom of the screen reopens the prepared mat.
Every change is saved on the laptop before it is sent, in order. Offline, the board carries on as if the server had accepted it.
Phone voting by judges needs the tournament online; offline, the table enters the flags by hand.
How results sync
The laptop retries in the background while it is offline. At the end of every match it also tries to reconnect and send everything at once, then shows Synced ✓ or how many changes are still pending.
- Someone changed the same bracket on the server: the laptop applies its results on top of the server's copy when they still fit.
- A real conflict: the chip turns red and opens a card that shows both versions of the match. Choose Use mine or Use the server's. Nothing is deleted until you choose.
- Another device took the mat: nothing is sent. The laptop keeps its changes and offers Take control and send mine or Later.
- Session expired: sign in again and the pending changes are sent.
What the director sees
In Live Control, each mat shows its sync health from the operator laptop: online or how long it has been without signal, the number of pending changes, conflicts, the last sync time, and whether the mat is prepared for offline use.
Limits
- A laptop prepares the mat it has open. A laptop that never opened a mat online has nothing to work from.
- The prepared copy covers that mat's day. On a multi-day event, open the mat online each morning and it prepares the new day.
- Keep the same laptop on the same mat. If you move it, pending changes for the old mat wait until that mat is free, or you can discard them.
- Changes made on other devices only reach this laptop once it is back online.
